Important TPHS Response to COVID-19

Triumph Public High Schools recognizes that Texas law gives the public the right to access certain government records that are otherwise not exempted from disclosure, and that the law contains guidelines for the timeframe in which we must respond to requests for information. Please understand that, due to the current federal and state emergency declarations related to COVID-19 (the Coronavirus), our school’s normal school operations have been suspended and we are currently operating with a skeleton crew. Moreover, on March 19, 2020, Governor Greg Abbott signed an order closing all schools throughout the State of Texas beginning at 11:59 pm on March 20, 2020 and continuing through at least 11:59 pm on April 3, 2020.

The Attorney General recognizes that days when public bodies are closed and skeleton crew days are not counted as business days for the purposes of calculating response deadlines under the Texas Public Information Act. For these reasons, we currently are not processing open record requests. We will resume processing requests within the timeframe required by state law once school reopens and we have more than a skeleton crew available at our school facilities.

Dear Triumph Public High Schools Faculty and Staff,

We continue to actively monitor developments regarding the coronavirus (COVID-19) in conjunction with local and state public health officials, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), 7-different city offices, 6-county offices, and over 30+ISDs.

This week, several mayors and city departments of health issued a third  public health emergency and prohibited gatherings of more than 50 people and in some instances in groups of less than 10 people.  We will work with you on a campus by campus basis to assure we meet your needs.

Therefore, and because of the rapidly evolving nature of this situation and out of an abundance of caution, Triumph Public High Schools (EL PASO) (LAREDO) (LUBBOCK) (RIO GRANDE VALLEY) is joining other districts in extending our closure of campus classrooms through Friday, April 3. Students and parents should, if they have not already done so, plan for long-term closures of schools.

In the meantime, we are also working to implement remote instruction. We will continue to update the Triumph PHS website [https://www.triumphpublicschools.org/] about remote instruction and will provide regular updates on our website, social media channels, and through email messaging. We direct you to the Texas Education Agency COVID-19 website [https://tea.texas.gov/texas-schools/safe-and-healthy-schools/coronavirus-covid-19-support-and-guidance] that was developed to provide us with support and guidance and will continue to be updated as needed.

During this unprecedented time, we want you to know that the safety and well-being of our students and staff are our top priorities. We understand that these developments have put a strain on families. We continue to be committed to educating our students. We will get through this by working together. Thank you for your patience and understanding and for your continued support of Triumph Public High Schools.

Together We Will Triumph! and Keep the Torch of Knowledge Ignited!
